Il soldato Awakuni (34a Divisione US, 100° battaglione, compagnia "C") danneggiò con il bazooka due cannoni d'assalto tedeschi nei pressi della Rocca Janula.</p><p class='eng'>December 10, 1943. Private First Class Masao Awakuni, of Mincie, Hawaii, can take a joke, but not a German one. Recently, on night patrol, he and his assistant gunner went alone to meet an enemy tank they heard approaching. Hiding behind a low hedge, Awakuni waited until the enemy war machine was 25 feet away before letting fly with his bazooka. In English, a voice cried out, "Joe! I'm hurt." But Awakuni wasn't to be fooled and gave the tank three more shots at close range. In the morning, the wrecked vehicle and dead Nazi crew testified as to his worth and eyesight.</p>
